Resounding thunder of paws and hooves
Whirling winds from wagging tails and blowing manes
Billowing down toward the Pearly Gates,

Rousing Saint Peter from his sleepy seat.
"Holy hoards!" he declared.
"Halt right there!"
"What in Heaven's name has brought you all here?"
A palomino pony galloped up and cleared the gate.
A spaniel, an Australian shepherd, two Shibas,

and a number of horses followed and

stopped at Saint Peter's feet.
A Tenacious Tiger strode forward to speak.
"Haven't you heard?" he boldly roared.
"Calling all animals who were a Buddy to our dearest friend!
Debbie is coming home today!"
Then Baldie whinnied, "UP, Debbie, UP!"
As all the Heavenly beasts cheered,
"DEBBIE'S HERE!"

Glen's poem was written for Debra Schaefer's memorial. It captures some of her many interests over an involved, interesting life. Below are details that might help to make the poem more meaningful for readers.

Debbie was a championship horse trainer and jumper. She learned to ride on a white pony named White Cloud, and went on to jumping with a stocky pony named Baldie. He would nearly stop coming to a jump, when she would shout "Up, Baldie, UP!" and he would make the jump! Crowds grew when the young lady and her unlikely steed came into the ring. She later owned a palomino, Goldie; and a big bay, Johnnie, along with all the dogs listed. She volunteered for decades at the Buddy Foundation, a no-kill shelter; and her team that raised money for years in the MS walk was dubbed the Tenacious Tigers. These were just a few of the ways my sister did good in the world.

Glen lived with his Grandma Norma Copper his whole senior year of high school. She took in many grandchildren over her 108(!)-year-long life. Glen's late sister, Julie Copper Liska, made this beautiful embroidery of Glen's poem.
